BotM: The Little Toymaker

The Little Toymaker by Cat Min tells the story of a young boy who makes beautiful toys, specifically for grandparents and older individuals. He feels that they deserve the happiness that toys bring, just like children do! The toymaker encounters an elderly woman who is uncertain about the toy she desires. By listening, dedicating time with her, and showing empathy, the little toymaker manages to create a magical toy unique to the story she told.

Discussion Questions:

  1. The little toymaker shows us the importance of listening. Who is someone you take the time to listen to?

  2. If you could create a magical toy for someone in your life, who would you make it for? And what would the toy be?

  3. The woman tells the little toymaker memories of her past, what special memory would you share if someone was listening?

  4. How do you feel when you help someone or make them happy?

  5. The toymaker has a unique job in town. What special job would you choose?
