JOB POSTING: Executive Director

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS

The mission of the Jackson Hole Children’s Museum (JHCM) is to provide space for children and families to play, create, explore and discover. We accomplish this by curating inspiring learning and play spaces for families, and by supporting the educational needs of children in Teton County with high-quality in- and out-of-school programming. The Executive Director, as the key strategic and operational leader, is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, fundraising, strategic plan and financial management of the organization. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors (BOD).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring sound strategic positioning and the execution of JHCM’s mission.

Fundraising (50%)

  • Develop and monitor an annual Development Plan that includes achievable goals and adheres to the annual budget’s income objectives.
  • Further develop JHCM’s Major Gifts program and expand donor relationships.
  • Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communication and ensure long-term commitments for donations.
  • Build membership programs, including Museum membership and our annual Leadership Circle.
  • Manage and improve the efficiency of the fundraising database (NationBuilder).
  • Maintain gift recognition program and oversee the release of an Annual Report.
  • Monitor trends in the community and region and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary.
  • Support the Director of Operations in identifying and securing new grants.

Strategic Planning (10%)

  • Assure that JHCM has a long-range strategy that works toward achieving its mission and guides the organization in making consistent and timely progress.
  • See that the Leadership Team reviews and updates the strategic plan on an annual basis.
  • With BOD, facilitate the process to identify and secure a long-term facility for the organization.

Board Management (10%)

  • Communicate effectively with the BOD and provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and make informed decisions.
  • Facilitate the work of committees.
  • Manage scheduling and content of BOD meetings, in partnership with Board Chair.

Financial Management (10%)

  • Oversee all financial matters of the Jackson Hole Children’s Museum.
  • Develop and track budgets to align with annual operating plan goals.
  • Report budget variance to the Treasurer promptly and plan accordingly.
  • Ensure fundraising meets operating needs.
  • Oversee the annual IRS 990 filings.

Staff Management (10%)

  • Foster a culture that attracts, retains, develops and motivates a high-quality, professional team.
  • Manage Operations Director to ensure effective administration of human resources, finance, marketing/communications, event planning, and general operations.
  • Manage Education Director to ensure effective implementation of high-quality educational programs that are meeting community need.
  • Oversee annual staff performance reviews and goal-setting; conduct reviews of Directors; address performance or team issues in a timely manner, if necessary.

External Relations and Representation (10%)

  • Represent the Jackson Hole Children’s Museum at events related to appropriate business and educational groups locally.
  • Speak publicly about the Jackson Hole Children’s Museum and our impact.
  • Serve as the organization’s spokesperson for the media.
  • Participate in regular meetings of the Systems of Education, and pertinent Town and County meetings related to early education.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years’ senior management experience.
  • Personal alignment with and passion for JHCM’s mission and values.
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership.
  • Experience in fundraising and campaign management.
  • Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit sector.

STATUS, SALARY AND BENEFITS

  1. Status:  Full-time, exempt employee
  2. Salary Range:  $60,000-$65,000 annually, DOE; potential for performance-based increases
  3. Health Insurance:  Available, if needed
  4. Paid Time Off (PTO):  4 weeks annually (vacation and sick leave combined)
  5. Holidays:  5 days annually, in addition to PTO

JOB POSTING: Weekend Front Desk & Museum Staff

Position Details:

Start Date:  November 2, 2019

Schedule:  4-5 hrs/week on Saturdays; potential for additional weekday/weekend hours, if desired

Pay rate:  Starting at $15/hr (commensurate with experience); non-exempt position

Job Description:

  • Manage front desk and serve as first point of contact
  • Create welcoming and friendly culture; set standard for customer service
  • Patron and visitor check-in; answer phones
  • Oversee general operations and facilities
  • Quality control and cleanliness, including safety checks, restocking supplies, maintaining exhibits after heavy play
  • Opening/closing procedures
  • Support play engineering

Position Details:

Start Date:  Immediately

Schedule:  as needed

Pay rate:  Starting at $15/hr (commensurate with experience); non-exempt position

Job Description:

  • Assist teachers with the implementation of enriching programs
  • Engage children and families in inquiry-based learning and exploratory play in our interactive museum spaces
  • Help maintain exhibits after periods of heavy play
  • Support museum operations, as needed

  • Transportation to/from the Museum is required
